How to overcome holiday learning loss

2 min read

There are lots of fun ways you can bring educational practice and revision into your holiday activities, which are a great way to combat holiday learning loss. Below are some ideas, all of which can all be done in under ten minutes. Why not encourage the whole family to get involved?

Share a story Share_Your_Favourite_Books

Reading out loud is a great way for your child to develop their confidence and literary skills. You can make things more exciting by leaving the last page and having them create their own ending to the story!

If you’re looking for inspiration, check out our list of 100 books we think all children should read by the end of primary school.

A tale of super sentences

Have your child write one sentence of a story each day, such as an astronaut’s mission to an undiscovered planet. They can expand on it daily and conclude it on the final day of the holiday. For the more advanced writer, why not give your child a new conjunction, verb or adverb to use each day? They’ll have created their very own short story before they know it!

Play times tables games

There are lots of games to help memorise and practise multiplications. In ‘tables tennis’, you serve an imaginary ball by asking your child a question; they return it by answering it as fast as they can! Or, use landmarks on your journeys, such as trees, for tables-inspired questions. These games can be played on the move, making them perfect for car journeys. Check out our blog for more ideas!
