Goals and Targets for teachers

As your pupils log in to DoodleMaths, DoodleEnglish or DoodleSpell, they’ll notice My Target, a colourful gauge with an arrow which shows them whether they’re on target to earn a certain number of stars each week.

We know that children learn best when work is personalised to their individual needs which is why, in addition to creating personalised work programmes, you can now set unique goals for every child to ensure they are all able to reach their full potential.

Goals are a great way to encourage and focus children on their learning journey. They promote healthy learning habits by encouraging daily Doodling, and most importantly, motivate children to learn independently.

Your pupils should be encouraged to stay within the green zone: not enough work will cause the arrow to drop to the amber or red zone, and too much work will also push them up into the excessive use red zone.

Our programmes will automatically create a default target number of stars to earn each week, which is based on the number of questions they receive in their x-a-day activity. Alternatively, you can create your own goal for a pupil, where our algorithms will suggest targets based on that student’s progress and calculate a target number of stars accordingly.

Default goal: to support regular practice

Doodle will automatically create a personalised goal for each pupil and suggest a recommended number of stars to earn. This is a number of stars that is achievable when a child Doodles for a few minutes a day.

This feature is perfect for those students who are on track to meet or exceed expectations and who use Doodle to practise what they’ve been learning to ensure they are remaining on track.

To see if your pupils are on target to reach their goals, log in to the Teacher Dashboard, hover over Analyse and select Goals and Targets.

Select your own goal: to catch up

For children who may need more support in their learning, you have the option to create your own custom goals. These can be specific targets, such as working towards meeting their year group expectations by a certain point in the year. Some other examples include:

  1. Meet all of their end of year objectives
  2. Increase their DoodleAge by one year
  3. Move up from 5-a-day to 6-a-day

Custom goals are a fantastic way to help your child achieve specific aims and, most importantly, increase their confidence in their own abilities. We recommend using the custom goals for children who have an EHCP, who are not yet on track to meet their end of year objectives, or who need more support.

To create a custom goal, log in to the Teacher Dashboard and hover over Analyse. Select Analyse Targets, press Edit goal and choose an end date by which the target should be achieved. Suggested goals will then appear; select Save for the target to appear in a child’s app.

Goals are not automatically shared with a child, as this may not always be appropriate.

We hope you enjoy My Targets and creating your own goals!
