Describe position, direction and movement including whole, 12, 14 and 34 turns

Introduced in the Year 1 curriculum as: "Describe position, direction and movement, including whole, half, quarter and three-quarter turns"

We can use words like forward and backward to describe movement in a straight line. If a movement involves a turn, it can be either clockwise (the same way that the hands go around a clock) or anti-clockwise.



Example 1:

The long hand of this clock has turned clockwise a quarter turn from 12:00 to 12:17.

Example 2:

The arrow in this picture has turned anti-clockwise a half turn.

Example 3:

The arrow is pointing at 'A', how can we move the arrow to get it to point to 'B'?

Turn clockwise 1 quarter turn or turn anti-clockwise 3 quarters turn.
