Use correct units and tools to measure length/height in any direction (m/cm)

Introduced in the Year 2 curriculum as: "Choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure length/height in any direction (m/cm); mass (kg/g); temperature (°C); capacity (litres/ml) to the nearest appropriate unit, using rulers, scales, thermometers and measuring vessels"

We measure the length or height of small things in centimetres (cm). We

measure the length or height of bigger things in metres (m). 1 metre =

100 centimetres.

We can use rulers, tape measures or metre rules to measure the length

or height of something.

We use words like taller, shorter and longer to compare length and height.

Example 1:

This pen is 10 cm long.

Example 2:

This car is 4 m long.

Example 3:

This banana is 12 centimetres long.

Example 4:

The door is 2 metres tall.
