Compare and sequence intervals of time

Introduced in the Year 2 curriculum as: "Compare and sequence intervals of time"

When putting times in order, we compare the hours first.

If these are the same, compare the minutes.

The hours on a clock are shown by the long hand.

The minutes on a clock are shown by the small hand of the clock.

Example 1:

10 o'clock comes before 11 o'clock. We compare the hours first.

Hours are shown by the small hand of the clock.

Example 2:

A quarter past two comes before half past two.

If the hours on the two clock faces are the same,

we compare the minutes.

Minutes are shown by the long hand on the clock face.

Example 3:

We can sort and organise clocks by the time they show.

These clocks are organised in time order from 3 o'clock.

Example 4:

We can sort and organise clocks by the time they show.

These clocks are organised in time order from 7 o'clock.
