Tell and write the time to five and ten minutes past the hour

Introduced in the Year 2 curriculum as: "Tell and write the time to five minutes, including quarter past/to the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times"

When the time is 'five past', it is 5 minutes after the hour

and the long hand (minute hand) points to the 1.

When it is 'ten past', it is 10 minutes after the hour

and the long hand (minute hand) points to the 2.

For ten and five past, the short hand (hour hand) points just after the hour.

Example 1:

The time is ten past 11

(Or 11:10)

Example 2:

The time is five minutes past 6

(Or 6:05)

Example 3:

The time is five minutes past 7

(Or 7:05)

Example 4:

The time is ten minutes past 5

(Or 5:10)
