Tell and write the time to quarter past the hour

Introduced in the Year 2 curriculum as: "Tell and write the time to five minutes, including quarter past/to the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times"

When the time is 'quarter past', it is 15 minutes past the hour. The long

hand (minute hand) points to the 3. The short hand (hour hand) points

just past the hour.

Example 1:

The time is quarter past 11

(Or 11:15)

Example 2:

The time is quarter past 6

(Or 6:15)

Example 3:

The time is quarter past 3

(Or 3:15)

Example 4:

The time is quarter past 7

(Or 7:15)

Example 5:

Which of these clocks show quarter past?

When the time is 'quarter past', the long hand points to 3.

So, only the middle clock shows 'quarter past'. It has a time of 3.15.
