The number of days in each month, year and leap year

Introduced in the Year 3, Year 5 curriculum as: "Know the number of seconds in a minute and the number of days in each month, Yr and leap Yr"

The are always 30 or 31 days in a month, apart from February, which has

28 days (or 29 in a leap year ). Here is a rhyme to help you remember the

days in each month:

'Thirty days in September, April, June and November. Once short February's done, all the rest have thirty-one'

This means there are 365 days in a year - or 366 in a leap year.

It's a leap year if the year is in the 4x table - 2016 is a leap year, as is 2020, 2024, etc.

Example 1:

How many days in August?

It's not one of the months with 30 days, so it must be 31!
