Multiplying by 1 and 0 and dividing by 1

Introduced in the Year 4 curriculum as: "Use place value, known and derived facts to multiply and divide mentally, including: multiplying by 0 and 1; dividing by 1; multiplying together three numbers"

When you multiply or divide a number by 1, the answer remains the same.

When you multiply any number by 0, the answer is always 0.


Example 1:

455 x 1 = 455


Example 2:

455 ÷ 1 = 455


Example 3:

455 x 11 x 0 = 0
