Calculating perimeter of compound rectilinear shapes

Introduced in the Year 5 curriculum as: "Measure and calculate the perimeter of composite rectilinear shapes in centimetres and metres"

A prime number has only 2 factors, itself and 1.

1 is not considered a prime number because it only has 1 factor - itself.


Example 1:

7 is a prime number, it only has factors of 1 and 7.


Example 2:

13 is a prime number, it only has factors of 1 and 13.
