As Reception children embark on their primary mathematical journey, they will begin to learn about numbers, counting and simple addition and subtraction. They'll also learn how to describe shapes, form patterns and define the location of objects. #### Year 1

In Year 1, children will further develop their counting skills, both forwards and backwards, and in multiples. They will learn to use number bonds and begin to interpret mathematical statements, including one step problems involving addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. #### Year 2

Year 2 children will learn how to recognise and write simple fractions, use standard units to estimate and measure length/height, and use mathematical vocabulary to describe position, direction and movement. #### Year 3

Year 3's curriculum includes the interpretation and presention data with bar charts, pictograms and tables. Children will create 3D shapes using modelling materials, tell and write the time from an analogue clock and learn simple subtraction and addition of fractions. #### Year 4

By the end of year 4, children will be comfortable counters in multiples of 6, 7, 9, 25 and 1000. They'll be adding and subtracting numbers of up to 4 digits and recalling multipication tables up to 12 x 12. They'll be able to convert between different units of measure and describe positions on a 2D grid. #### Year 5

In year 5, children will learn how to solve problems using information presented in line graphs and will work with the reflection and translation of shapes. They will be able to measure given angles in degrees and estimate volume and capacity. They will work with more complex fractions and convert them to and from decimals. #### Year 6

As children take their SATs at the end of primary school, they will be able to read, write, order and compare numbers up to 10,000,000. They will be able to identify common factors, multiples and prime numbers, and will work with simple algebra formulae, generate linear number sequences and calculate the area of parallelograms and triangles.
